In both of my appointments so far (and in the third which is about to
start) I have endeavoured to have a separate, private number to give out to
friends and family, and have retained the number of my predecessor as the
"Work Number". I now use a VOIP Number, with a small box that attaches to
the router, as the private one - it doesn't cost me a lot. To be honest, I
can't imagine using the same number for both work and home - when I had my
Sabbatical, I turned the ringer off on the work phone, how could I do that
if getting personal calls to the same number?
Keeping the number does mean though that you do get calls addressed to
predecessor(s) and that has been a problem at times. Yes, sometimes you get
a call that probably should be going to you anyway, but the last but one
Minister in my outgoing appointment (about 15 years ago!) seems to have
ended up on various lists, and so every now and again I get a spam call
from someone addressing me as "Mr Taylor", and the number of people wanting
to tell me there's "a problem with your computer" is usually at least a
couple a week - they usually disappear as soon as I say "You've got a
choice of about 6, which one?"
God Bless

Good morning
Hope are all well and enjoying the various sports of offer.... praying for
us all as we share Conference news from the Pulpit tomorrow
A quick question about GDPR and phone numbers... As we all carry mobiles
that is usually our primary contact number
The question is about landline numbers in a Manse after a change of
Minister... I have experienced both keeping the same number and having a
new one, it was not a problem..
Having a new one just meant I had to update Funeral Directors etc but I
also didn’t receive any of my predecessors intended calls
What is your current / recent experience ?
Thanks
