Hi butterfliers,

Journey North has no monarchs reported so far for our area. If you have the
date of your first sighting of a monarch for spring 2009 would you mind
reporting it through the link at the bottom of this message? You can also
report first milkweed leaves to emerge.

Thanks, Nancy

Hi Gary,

Look how far east the monarchs have gone and how little they have moved to
the north! (Click on the link below)Measure from a central point in Texas
you'll find they've flown 950 miles to the east and only 500 miles to the
north.

Please Help!

The spring data Journey North collects is one important indicator of monarch
population dynamics, so please help us document this year's migration
through your region. Our "MapServer" will add your sightings to the map
while you wait:

http://www.learner.org/jnorth/maps/monarch_spring2009.html

Please Report:

** The FIRST monarch butterfly you see this spring.***

** The FIRST MILKWEED LEAVES to emerge this Spring! ***

If you DO have milkweed, please check for eggs! It's possible to have missed
the adult!

We really appreciate your report from last year and have placed it below.
Thank you for your help in tracking the migration from Mexico!

Cheers!

Cindy Schmid

Your report from last year:

04/06/108 Elizabethton TN 1st monarch sighted. Seemed to be headed
north. We are confident of the sighting. We rear and tag monarchs for
Monarch Watch. Also we just received a report from the local butterfly club
which went on an outing on over the weekend. They reported a monarch, too.
