Of course, those of us who leave machines on as file servers and let others sleep rather than turn them off will need to buy a bunch of carbon credits to offset our decadent western materialism. Anyone want to chip in on an acre of rain forest?

I always put my macbook to sleep, simply because it takes about a second to wake up, which is really convenient. Of course, if I know I'm not going to use it for two days, or I'm traveling or things like that I shut it down, but if not I just close the lid and it goes to sleep. I didn't do this with my Windows machines because after a few days everything would slow down, but with the mac it works just great.

Hi Russell, I usually shut my mac mini down, but I have a friend of mine who is trying to get me always to put my mini to sleep, because that's the way he does things, and there is a side of this argument for sleep or shut down that says that the computer will last longer if the electronics are kept at a warm temperature, but I like to shut mine down.

Hi all,

I've had my iMac for 3 months now. I usually shut it down at the
endof the day when I'm done using it, and wonder what other folks do?
Do you all shut down your Macs each day or leave them running? Is one
method preferable?

Thanks for any and all help.
