Ain’t it the truth! I’ve been dabbling in the Windows world, again, for some
things that just aren’t accessible on the Mac. How I love defragging & disc
cleanup! It just feels so good!!! *Smile*. Miss Permissions, as well.

Thinking of when I joined the list with my first Mac in 2011, there were a
lot more work arounds being shared. I can recall the triumph when Pages
finally had usable tables, and the day the rename table function came to
Numbers so we didn’t have to run a script. Voiceover for IPhone wa also only
2 years old, and we didn’t have the mature infrastructure of tutorials and
mentors.
I’m totally not doing a *back in my day, I’m really glad things are the way
they are now.
Hmmm, my machine is running a little slow, I’d better run a repair
permissions function.
Ok, a few of us just laughed, and we honour Guru Keith for the number of
times he pointed out how that would help, and it did. Sometimes I wish there
was an app that ran a pretend repair permissions interface, it would just
make me feel good to think I was tidying stuff up.

Well,
All of that might be true & probably is true. But, I think the reality is
simpler. You either do the work-a-round or you do very little. *Smile*.
I’m pretty sure that all disabled people, of all disability types, have to
regularly think outside of the box. It’s a lot more complicated, &
definitely a pain in the behind @ times, but as the Grunts in Vietnam used
to say when faced with the futility of their situation, “there it is!” I’m
happiest when I can find a work-a-round &, usually, most pleased with
myself. The real frustration arises, when you hit that brick wall that says
there are no work-a-rounds. That’s when we ring the “sighted assistance
bell.” Oh, how I hate that bell. I’m blessed with a wife & children, who
don’t mind helping. But, I just hate feeling dependent.
Oh well, again, “there it is!” Best to all,
CJ

I changed the subject line because this is a very interesting field, one

Thinking about my own work arounds, shifting to the Mac twelve years back
from Windows, because of Voiceover was pivotal, Windows had expensive third
party solutions.
Others are similar, talking tools, tape measure, watch, audio level,
scales, battery tester, then there is what I feel has been a very strong
spatial sense memory, seemingly stronger than most sighted people.
Plus I have to be somewhat fearlessly foolish to attempt anything at all,
and I attempt almost everything !
Perhaps the necessity to find a workaround calls on a Creativity otherwise
left dormant.

Yeah,
I tell my wife, all the time, that I’ve been doing “work arounds” since I
was nine-years-old & the lights went out. So, I understand that Logic. I
wish you success.
All the best to you & yours,

Hi CJ and thank you for your note and thanks for caring enough to write.
First of all I am just not a Microsoft fan so I stay away from that
stuff. But the real thing here is I love making things work that others
say will not work. Work around is my middle name, grin, smile.

Keith,
I, too, am using the MS Office 365 suite on my Mac. As others have
stated, the new model is for subscription not outright purchase, but the
applications do—indeed—reside on your machine. And, as far as I know,
there’s no move afoot to change that model. I’ve found the
accessibility to be very high. With the exception of some clunkiness in
Outlook. Which is no problem for me, as I choose to use Apple’s Mail
App anyway.
Seems like your getting a lot of the same info & that’s frustrating
you…;-). Well, I’ve reached the same place in life, “it should work &
dang it, I’m gonna make it work. LOL. I wish you success in all your
endeavorss. Your the best & we all benefit from your list & early work
with VoiceOver.
Best to you,

Thanks my friend,
My wife who is our secretary was using MS word but then they went
internet only and neither one of us is comfortable with that and pages
no longer supports Male merge and we need that.
I think I am going to poke around a little while longer. Some years
ago I used this app even translated braille with it. Maybe I am just
missing something.
Thanks again CJ.

Keith,
My results were the same as Johns. Actually, worse now that I think
about it, because it was pretty much inaccessible. Have you
considered Pages? Johnathan Mosen has a complete audio tutorial on
his site for…maybe…$35? I’m not a hundred percent certain about the
tutorial’s price. But, I do remember, when I bought my tutorial on
Amadeus about a month ago, it was a temptation. Anyway, just a
thought & best of luck.
Blessings,

Hi folks,
I used Libre office writer some years ago and it went quite well

Thanks.
