Hi Ron,

I find safari easier to use if configured to behave simply. As far as grouping items on web pages is concerned, this can be a good navigation aid if the pages are well formed and lend them selves to item grouping. Here's how it works roughly. Let's say you have a paragraph with some text and some links in it and let's say we have a bunch of them. If they are propperly formed and group items on web pages is checked, instead of speaking each and every thing on the page as you use vo keys with arrows to move through the page, only the information sticking out of the group will be spoken in order to determine whether or not you should expand the group to navigate it. It is fort of a page summary if you will. It can be helpfull on complex sites with lots of forms and mixed content.

I do not have safary go a new page when it loads because it is disorienting and I have never found it to be usefull. I also do not use tab browsing because when I load a page, I find it easier to have everything in the same window rather than trying to figure out what window I am in. I think configuring safari is the ticket. I have not yet found a better browser for VoiceOver and the Mac dispite the fact that it does not work with every page.

Hey Keith,

Perhaps, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, you could give me a rundown on how you have Shiiara configured to work best with VO?

I do have that checkbox checked in the VO utility, but Shiira doesn't seem to behave like Safari - that is, speak the first thing that the VO cursor lands on when the new web page loads.

Also, what is the advantage to grouping itens in a web page, as opposed to not doing that? I currently don't do that, but that document, "Using Mac Apps with VoiceOver", seemed to suggest setting VO up that way.

If anyone else wants to chime in, with suggestions as to optimizing Shiiara to work best with VO, please do! Shiira is faster, and does seem to be "busy" a lot less than Safari, and those things, alone, make it worth using more often!

Again, thanks!

Ron

Ron,

I am having no trouble with Voiceover cursor moving to a newly loaded webpage with Shiira.

Make sure that you have Voiceover cursor moves to newly loaded webpage checked in the navagation tab in the Voiceover, pannel, control-option-f8.

And remember Shiira uses tabs to a greater extent than Safari does.

Maybe this will be of some help.

Keith
