Keith, Yes, this helps very much. Thanks for your explanation, and thanks
for doing a good job to keep us on track however narrow that track may
sometimes be. If we have any question at all, we can certainly put OT in
the subject line.

Thanks again.

Neal

Hi Neal,

I do understand your questionsand you are doing fine. There are many
questions that may seem of topic, but are Voiceover related and then there are some questions which are clearly off topic. If a question is clearly of topic and one still needs an answer to it, just put, "OT" in the subject line. I am trying to answer in a general way. In short, anything that helps some one to choose the right MAC, or questions about learning an App are fair game, not to exclude other subjects. We have covered sound, Word processing and the list goes on and we want to deal with these and more.

Does this help any at all.

Keith, Thanks, I understand what you are trying to do and my question
was not meant to be negative in any way, but this does raise a more
general issue. Some of the questions people ask on this list have as
much to do
with learning the Mac as they do with the specifics of VoiceOver.
Given
that many of us are on this Mac learning curve, would you suggest that
we find another list on which to ask more general Mac questions? If
so, can you direct me to such a list?

Please understand, I am not trying to be picky here, I am, however,
trying to give you what you want, but that requires asking a few
questions.

Hi Neal,

As for me, I would think that this is a Voiceover question.

Neal, I don't want to drive this thing in to the ground, I am just
trying to get us all to filter our messages before they go out on the
list, ok?

Hi Keith. It seems to me that, especially for beginners like myself,
it is sometimes hard to know if you are asking a VoiceOver question
as apposed to a general Mac question. Take my following post for
example.

Hi all, Do I just have a slow computer? On the BCT page, if I press
control option command H to go to headers, it takes about 5 seconds
to get to each header. When I try to bring up a link list, it takes
about 30 seconds. Anyone else have this problem? I'm guessing my
Mac Mini is not the fastest kid on the planet? Thanks. And thanks
for the help on finding the preferences.

Neal

Now, I have no clue if this is caused by VoiceOver, or if it is a
general Mac question. I would certainly agree that it doesn't teach
people about using VoiceOver directly, but if there are problems
regarding slow- downs that perhaps result when using VoiceOver, this
is, I think, a question that VoiceOver users need to know.

So, tell me where the thin line is here and I will be happy to abide.

Thanks for dealing with this issue.

Neal

Subject: [macvoiceover] IMPORTANT! FROM THE LIST ADMIN, off topic
messages, please read!

Hi folks,

Boy, I hate to write these kind of messages.

Last week we had several hundred messages come over the list and
several of them according to the list guidelines were off topic.

First of all, lets take a look at what we are trying to do with this
list and that is to learn and USE Voiceover with the MAC, so when you write your message, ask your self, does this have anything to do with learning and using Voiceover with the MAC? If it does not, please put
the letters "OT"
for offtopic, in the subject line, so that the rest of us can choose
to read it or not.

Folks, please help me with this. This list has become a great place
to learn about Voiceover, but, we can't learn with helpful messages
intermixed with off topic messages.

This list will soon reach 100 members and we can be a help to many if
we will just stay with in the guidelines.

Thank you so much.
