I downloaded an app from the Mac App Store called Messenger for Facebook Chat.
It was the first one in the list when I searched for Facebook chat. It seems
pretty accessible, standard lists and tables etc. The downside is one more app
to have open, although you don’t need to go to the Facebook site just to send a
message.

According to my reading, they added support for Jabber/XMP in 2010, and cut
the connection in April or May of 2015. Some people reported it working up

why that would matter if it was Facebook shutting it down from their end,
but go figure.
A bunch of the other messaging clients seem to use a Jabber/XMPP
connection, so I’m not sure the results will be any better. There are a few
in the Mac App Store, I’m goign to try a couple out and report back. Of
course the seamless integration of all your chatting in one place will be
lost.
