I was working on setting up a Jabber connection too, I put it out to my FB
feed, and at least one person says their connection is still functioning.
According to my reading, they added support for Jabber/XMP in 2010, and cut the
connection in April or May of 2015. Some people reported it working up until
December 2015, most people who put it on the Apple support community indicated
it happened when they upgraded, I assume to El Capitan. No clue why that would
matter if it was Facebook shutting it down from their end, but go figure.
A bunch of the other messaging clients seem to use a Jabber/XMPP connection,
so I’m not sure the results will be any better. There are a few in the Mac App
Store, I’m goign to try a couple out and report back. Of course the seamless
integration of all your chatting in one place will be lost.

At least until not too long ago Facebook had a Jabber service and it worked
just fine with messages on OS X. I haven't used it in a while though, but I
will try later and let you know. If not the Facebook messenger app for iOS
is perfectly accessible, and it seems like Facebook might be developing an
application for the Mac as well.

Hi guys,
I am finding the same thing here. If any one finds a program that will
work please let me know. I don't use it often but trying to do messaging
on facebook really is well you know.
Thanks.

Did a little further reading, looks like Facebook shut down this function
sometime last Summer. Some people who had been using it previously report
it was still working as of June, I’ll let you know if I find anything
about recent developments.

I am trying to get everything restored, but was having problems with
facebook chat in messages before the change.
Can someone please tell me the process to get facebook chat back into
messages app?
Thanks!
