This is a very important feature. This will allow you to encrypt your local
disk and yes you should also set your time machine / backup disk to be
encrypted. Encryption is good it’s good to keep the bad guys out where and
when possible. 2Factor is also an important security step.
You will use a series of beeps to log in when you boot on your older Macs,
newer Macs have a spoken prompt. Make an easy username to type in when you set
up your account the first time if possible.
Good luck, it’s a good security step you’re taking.

I have heard that it is a good thing for security to encrypt my hard drive
using FileVault. I am using a 2010 MacBook Pro running El Capitan. Does
encryption affect VoiceOver? I heard that there is a screen that comes up
where you need to type in your code before The computer boots up. Also, is it
fairly easy to encrypt The hard drive?
Or should I just consider encrypted my back up hard drive?
