If this bug happens to appear, I usually command tab out of the app and then
back again and it seems to go away. At least, in the past, this has occurred. I
have not had it happen in Big Sur in recent weeks yet.

Hi Shawn and all,
I first saw this bug in Mojave and I find it to be a problem in mail. It is
some what better in Catalina but it is not gone. I am using a 3rd party
e-mail app and it does not happen in the 3rd party app at all. And I am using
an Apple voice, Aaron.

Actually Jon, there's been a bug that has been introduced in Big Sur that
when pressing the control key once, the voice still talks. I've experienced
this with three voices, Daniel, the Siri female voice, and Alex. The only
voices that don't exhibit this behavior are third party voices such as
Acapela and Cereproc.

Make sure you aren’t repeatedly pressing the control key because remember
this is a toggle. People tend to do this and end up not turning off speech.
As for Youtube, provided you are opening a Youtube webpage in Safari, k,
is the shortcut key to pause and start the media. This has always worked for
me.

I must have messed up a setting because I keep hitting control and it does
not silence speech. When pressing k to stop videos VO talks and when
pressing k to start playback, VO continues to talk.
Is there a short cut like VO, command arrow right / left to move across VO
settings and then make adjustments on the fly? It seems like I use to
change voices, playback rate, key announce, and tweak other settings like
this with a handy shortcut.
Thanks,
Keith

Control will silence Voiceover speech. With YouTube, I think the k key

Thanks for those commands. They worked nicely.
Should I be able to use the control key to stop VO from talking? When
watching YouTube, I will rewind and I'd like to stop it from talking
quickly.

Keith, I can tell you that command option L. will get you into the
downloads folder. Control shift down arrow wall get you to interact with
the downloads folder. And commando will open in the application that you
are wanting to open or any document that you have downloaded and want to
open. I hope this helps you.

Hi,
I am working on learning how to use a Mac Book Air using Voice Over.
I am needing some suggestions on understanding what I should be
interacting with. I often seem to be interacting with titles that lead
nowhere or tables that lead to other tables where I can’t follow the
logic.
A basic task I want to learn is how to use and open the finder where
Downloads, Documents, Applications and Recent items live. I go to the
doc, choose finder, and that is where I get stuck. Sometimes I interact
with the right side bar or title bar and I get so excited. Then I close
everything and can’t duplicate it. Let’s just say I have to step away
from the computer in frustration. That is why I am reaching out for
help. My daughter uses a MAC and she says she can see in the finder the
applications, downloads, documents, etc. on the screen but I can’t
figure out how to access them.
I would also like to understand how to install applications. It sounds
like the application files that I download to the downloads folder needs
to be copied and pasted in to the applications folder. The problem is
that I can’t seem to get to these folders with much ease or consistency.
I was able to figure out how to do it once and my daughter said that I
copied over an image of the application and not the actual application.
Like I said I need more explanation on how this works.
Appreciate any explanation or pointers.
Thanks,
Keith
