I went to Kisatchie National Forest in Natchitoches Parish this morning to find
Meske's skippers. Their first brood occurs in June and peaks about June 20.
The weather was not great for butterflies, but I figured today was better than
the next two days because of the tropical depression in the Gulf. In the 1.5
hours that I was there, I had sun, drizzle and overcast skies. A very hard
rain came just after noon when I left. Anyway, I did find four Meske's
skippers in the usual places. However, this is nothing like the 140 Meske's
that I saw June 20, 2013. The complete list is below.
