150 of 233 stolen vases from St. Bernard Memorial Gardens cemetery recovered More stolen cemetery vases recovered at N.O. scrap yard 06:00 PM CDT on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 $120,000 worth of vases stolen from cemetery 08:21 PM CDT on Monday, April 7, 2008 WWLTV.com St. Bernard deputies have arrested two men in connection with the theft of over $120,000 worth of brass flower vases from the St. Bernard Memorial Gardens cemetery. St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office Val Terry, 41 and Joseph Scorsone, 41, were charged with 94 counts of possession of stolen items after the vases were found in the trunk of one of their cars. St. Bernard Parish Sheriff Jack Stephens said he thinks the two men could be part of a larger ring and he believes that the expensive brass vases, that go for about $600 apiece, were taken with the idea of being melted for their raw material. “I think there’s a good chance we’re going to find out where the ultimate destination of those vases were and we’re going to make a case,” he said. According to Stephens, investigators became suspicious after seeing a man on a bike and another on a truck at the cemetery site. “It just makes you wonder how low people can sink in terms of what they are willing to do to enrich themselves,” said Stephens. Police have recovered about 98 of the 223 vases so far. http://www.wwltv.com/local/stories/wwl040708tpvases.40a6598e.html WWLTV.com State police and St. Bernard Parish deputies found 50 of the brass vases stolen from St. Bernard Memorial Gardens cemetery recently after raiding a scrap metal shop in New Orleans.
