The latter: malaprop. Analysed a la Grice by D. Davidson -- whom R. Paul has
just quoted -- in the festchrift for Grice (Grandy & Warner, Clarendon
Press, 1986).
Davidson and Grice want to say that
if by uttering 'platoic' she (Mrs. Malaprop) meant tectonic, then it's what
she meant that matters.
My favourite, "an erotic postman" for 'erratic'.
The one in the title, obviously, means, 'a nice arrangement of epithets'.
