Well now, I guess we need not inquire as to whether Christianity is
misogynistic or not. If it hadn't been for all that unintentional sinning,
the whole earth would be goat land. Thank God, I've never sinned
unintentionally. I plan my sins out to maximize the benefits, of course
some would say that's not an unintentional sin. Nonsense, say I, I had no
intention that it be a sin. Twasn't me wanted it that was.
Me (mike geary)

Still radically unintentional in Memphis, Tennessee, born and raised and
enculturated (my word) here through no fault of mine own.

You're kidding.

Indeed, it seems like something a kid would do, to have a specific word for
a "year-old she-goat".

When translating the Bible, Luther found that someone must be acting like a
'kid' or kidding.

Ditto Grice. One of his maxims of conversation is:

'be as specific as you need, not more, not less."

And surely, as Geary might argue, that the Ancient Greeks needed a specific
lexical item for a "one-year-old she-goat" reminds him of Capri -- the
land of goats.

But there is a Griceian rationale behind the Grecian expression (I am using
Grecian alla Keats, Ode on a Grecian Urn). It may be argued that she-goat
versus he-goat is relevant (another Griceian maxim of conversation is 'be
relevant') for surely you cannot extract milk from a he-goat (In
Lancashire,
a she-goat is called a 'nanny', short, for 'Nanny-goat'). But why the
restriction to 'one-year'? Homer tasted the milk of she-goats that were
not
still one year old and was not satisfied. After this, it is no wonder some
Ancient Greek utterer invented the expression that provoked McEvoy to
utter,
"You're kidding".
