Respond, in fifty words or less, to *one* of the following prompts. There
will be extra marks for pith...e.g. diplomatic comments by M. Nantongo on
how best to deal with gurly seas. We are, of course, all on the honor
system here, but it seems timely to remind you of standing regulations
against any and all forms of cheating on e-mail tests.

a) ...it will propel a street car better than a gas jet and give more light
than a horse. (Ambrose Bierce)
b) Into the pit-mirk nicht we northwart sail
Facing the bleffarts and the gurly seas.
   (J.K. Annand)
c) No question is so difficult to answer as that to which the answer is
obvious. (George Bernard Shaw)
d) It is never difficult to distinguish between a Scotsman with a grievance
and a ray of sunshine. (Pelham Grenville Wodehouse)
e) I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human
knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House--with the
possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone. (John Fitzgerald
Kennedy)
f) Listen, someone's screaming in agony--fortunately I speak it fluently.
Spike Milligan
