It's good for television, which suggests the reason for it's lack of
popular acclaim, but not great as an audio-visual phenomenon.  I could
cite episodes from other shows but, considering the general audience...

  Donal, it is outstanding. Easily the most underrated show on HBO (and
  television as a whole). The stories tapered off in seasons four and
  five but a mediocre episode on The Wire is better than a lot else
  that
