the name of the cheese is far later, from portuguese origins, I was taught
Wikipedia differs, citing “ancient Roman authors” who wrote about this cheese.
On the Pecorino Romano website these authors are identified:Varro, Pliny the
Elder, Hippocrates and Columella. No citations are given. Perhaps the next
challenge should be to find out what these folks said about the cheese?
