Thank you, John. It's always nice to know that others share your concerns. It
so happens that I've been working on a country song about coldness. I'll share
it with you for your Xmas gift.

There are those among us who don't care who they hurt,
Who'll take what they want and leave you in the dirt,
I hope you won't count me among them when I say:
I just can't go on living this way.

All my friends will take me aside and scold,
They think you're so funny and clever and bold,
How lucky I am, I've often been told,
But then they've never had to suffer your cold.

Open the doors of hell and let me in.
I'll do anything to feel warmth again.
A billionth of a degree above absolute cold
Is like a May breeze compared to your heart and soul.

There's a little poem that debates the end,
By fire or by ice? I don't mean to offend,
But I'm tired of burning with desire for you,
Whilst you frostily demand I be somebody new.

All my molecules have slowed to a virtual stop.
You've killed my desire to live, I should call a cop.
But there is no law against being cold hearted,
So, darling, I think it best that we be parted

                  *  *  *  *  *

It's a work in progress. : )

Merry Capitalismus to you too, and a Happy New Year.

Mike Geary

Broadcast in high definition where available.)

Air-conditioning, refrigeration, and superconductivity are just some
of the ways technology has put cold to use. But what is cold, how do
you achieve it, and how cold can it get? NOVA explores these and
other facets of the frigid in the two-hour program "Absolute Zero."
Follow the quest for cold from the unlikely father of
air-conditioning, the court magician of King James I of England in
the 17th century, to today's scientists pioneering superfast
computing in the quantum chill near absolute zero--the ultimate
extreme of cold at minus 273.15 C (minus 460 F).
