Here's some numbers:

46% of freshmen at UC Berkeley, the top US public university, are Asian-American, but California is only 12% Asian.
29% are white, who are 44% of the state population.
11% are Hispanic, who are 35% of the state population.
3.6% are black, who are 7% of the state population.

Across the United States at elite private and public universities, Asian-Americans (less than 5% of the general population) typically make up 10-30% of students: Carnegie Mellon (24%), Stanford (24%) Massachusetts Institute of Technology (27%) Yale (14%), Princeton (13%).
