Thank you for reminding me of the Pythons’ use of the word “weaponry.” Also
for the reminder that anything can be a weapon, even witheld love.
As for Dylan, I think this is another occasion to wonder what we mean by cause
and effect and motive. Why did Dylan drink too much? Because he liked booze,
because he was genetically predisposed to do so, because he was a socially
awkward man, because he wanted to feel that he was transgressive, not
suffocated by the pressures of the 1950s, because he had bananas for
breakfast…? Why does anyone do anything too much?
And what would we learn if we knew the answer?
