I would be interested to hear what others think of David Lodge's
latest. I can't decide whether I read it attentively because my
hearing's not the best, because my father lives in a South London
suburb located approximately as in the novel and spelled only one
letter off where the narrator's father lives, because the doctor at
the end has the same Sri Lankan last name as one of my early history
teachers, because I work with one of the other characters and
recognize characteristics of two others, or because it's a good novel.
