[lit-ideas] Re: Archimedes

Does one have to have a concept of an equation to have a grasp of  algebra?  
Just wondering.

I wonder where he does this? I'd be surprised if  Archimedes had any  
clear notion of an equation (but I'm ready to be  surprised).
