*The Curse of the Pharaohs Strikes Again*

He may be dead, but British archaeologist Howard Carter who discovered
the sarcophagus and rich burial chamber of King Tutankhamun in 1922
cannot escape the legendary curse of the Pharaohs, which allegedly
strikes anyone who dares to open the burial vault of an Egyptian
pharaoh. Carter spent 10 years emptying King Tut's lavish burial chamber
of its immense treasure, but died a mysterious death before he published
a list of his hoard.

*Legend has it that anyone who opens the tomb of a pharaoh will die. Can
the curse of the pharaohs be explained--and even dispelled--by science?

AFP news service reports that experts who recently conducted a modern
medical examination on the King Tut mummy to try to determine his cause
of death found that he had several fractures, including a badly broken
leg and crushed chest bones. But it appears that Carter caused some of
them when he exhumed the mummy from the tomb. "The one and true curse of
the Pharaohs was Carter's greed and covetousness," charged Sabri
Abdelaziz, the head of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities. He
blasted Carter for damaging the 3,300-year-old mummy.

*/"If anyone would touch my tomb he would be eaten by a crocodile, a
hippo, and a lion." /It's the curse of the pharaohs. Legend has it that
anyone who opens the tomb of a pharaoh will die. Do you believe it?

*The curse strikes again. *Carter's reputation is being further
maligned. AFP reports that Abdelaziz also accused Carter of pillaging
Tutankhamun's sepulcher, using white-hot metal bars to tear out his
famous gold mortuary mask, which is now on display in Cairo Museum, and
mishandling the mummy which, as a result, was fractured in several
places. While the recent CT scan did establish that Tut, who died at the
age of 19, had not been murdered, no cause of death could be
established. "The team of scientists found no evidence that he had been
struck in the head and no other indication he was killed, as has been
said before," Egypt's chief archeologist Zahi Hawass said.

*You won't believe what archaeologists recently found inside an Egyptian
mummy--and what they're doing with it now.

They also concluded that he could not have died from the fracture in his
left leg, even if it had been infected; in fact, that fracture was
likely caused by the embalmers after his death, while Carter is blamed
for the crushed chest bones. The 17,000 pictures from the CT scan "show
that Tutankhamun was not assassinated and that the fractures on the
mummy were first and foremost caused by Carter and then by embalmers,"
according to the team's report. The sarcophagus of Tutankhamun has only
been opened four times since it was discovered by Carter.
