Hi,
We have been using UEB for the last seven years in Australia and in practice,
the script indicator is very rarely used. I would actually think that the
transcriber-defined typeform is more important for inclusion - it is also used
very rarely but is more flexible and can be used to indicate script font as
well as any other special typeforms.
The symbols for the transcriber-defined typeform are:
4-3456-23 first transcriber-defined typeform symbol indicator
4-3456-2 first transcriber-defined typeform word indicator
4-3456-2356 first transcriber-defined typeform passage indicator
4-3456-3 first transcriber-defined typeform terminator

Another change with typeform indicators in UEB is the way that they are applied
across successive text elements. For example, if several paragraphs are shown
in italics, the italics passage indicator is given at the start of each
paragraph but the terminator is shown only at the end of the last paragraph.
This even applies when some of the text elements are less than three words in
length - the passage indicators are used rather than word indicators.
Is it possible to implement this within liblouis?

Thanks,
Leona

Subject: [liblouis-liblouisxml] The script indicator in UEB

Currently liblouis handles the following emphasis types, bold, italic underline
and computer braille. Adding a script indicator would break backward
compatibility. This is because, due to some choices made at the beginning (not
mine), only four emphasis indicators can be accommodated.
How important is the script indicator?

Thanks,
John
