From the start liblouis and liblouisutdml have been designed to be able
to handle science, technology, engineering an mathematical materials.
There are semantic-action files and liblouis tables for translating
MathML into various mathematical codes, such as Nemeth, u,maths and
Marburg math. Now liblouisutdml is adding the capabiloity to produce
tactile graphs and other images. The math codes do need refining. Native
users of them might wish to take a look. Tactile graphics are still
under development.

Translating MathML to a particular Braille mathematics code is done in
two steps. First a semantic-action file is used to produce an
inermediate text, which may contain any characters. Then liblouis tables
are used to produce the final form in characters that will be mapped to
the correct dot patterns.
