If you put all variables on the stack, including string variables, C 
does most of the memory management. If you look at some of the 
liblouisxml mudules you will notice that the various functions put 
everything on the stack (dynamic variables) except for things which must 
be preserved frfom one call to another or shared between different 
functions, which are static. Pointers can be a hassle. It is usually 
better to use subscripts and let the optimpxing compiler generate good 
code. liblouis and liblouisxml use pointers mostly for reference to 
structures or parameters.

Others may have different opinions on C++. I didn't find any advantage 
it it for what I wanted to do.
