Excellent point..... with the CC models, if you do not pay the fee per
month, your images will not be able to be modified. I think the only things
you can do are look at them and print them, as the current edits have been
applied. Your previous edits will be your last. Not sure what happens to
your cloud storage, as when you stop paying them, and the images are on
THEIR server, and they certainly are not going to do anything for you for
free......
The various versions of LR Classic or otherwise CC or V6, have different
tools built into them. If you decide to switch back to LR V6, you will lose
some of the edits you made because LR6 does not have those tools in its
arsenal. You would need to convert all your images to TIFFS, ( they will
have all your CC edits) download them ( and they will be bigger!!!) and then
cut off your earlier subscription service.
I think folk forget to figure out the amount of storage they use, and how
long it will take to upload or download the complete enchilada. As sensor
resolution goes up, storage needs go up..... and a bunch of 50MB files (
Sony A7R,ii,iii series are in this range) take a while.
Just for fun..... 50mb per image = 20 images per GB. For 10,000 images ( I
think this is a real low number after a few years) = 500GB.
( remember 400 baud modems?).... At the speed of 20MB per second ( realistic
for a lot of internet users), that would be 500gb / 20mb ( 500x10 9th / 20x
10 6th) = 25x10 3rd or 25,000 seconds.
60sec/min x 60 minutes / hour = 3600 seconds per hour. Basic answer is 8
hours, continuous without an error. Maybe it would happen.....
I tested my internet speed as I was writing this..... 7 mbps download speed,
10 mbps upload speed. Would take me 20 hours to download 10,000 images. I
think Tina once said she has 250,000 images in her stock image
portfolio...... And again, just for fun..... that would take about 3 weeks
of continuous download to get her portfolio back to home, using my speed
internet. And I purposely did not take into account the amount of time it
would take to turn those 250,000 images from RAW into TIFF. YMMV.
I know there are people that think the CC version ( cloud based) is the
cat's meow, but to me, it is a problem waiting to happen.
The V6 is probably the best solution ( and I do have a license for it and in
fact for PS as well) but some of the new features are pretty useful and
Adobe has already said they will not update it. So the Classis CC version
is my poison.

There are 3 versions of LR:
1)Old, V6 ( I think that is right) for which you have a perpetual license,
and Adobe no longer updates.
2) LR CC which is cloud based.
3) LR Classic CC which is resident on your computer, both program files and
image files.
Perspective...... The reason to use LR CC is that your files are on THEIR
server. You can use them anyplace on any device.
The reason to use LR Classic CC is that your files are NOT on their
server... so when they have a security breech, your files are safely at
home.
And they charge extra for using their server.
And when they tell you to pay or else all your files will blow up ( remember
Man From Uncle?) you can thumb your nose at them.
AND when they tell you that all the files you have on their server are now
THEIR property, and they have the legal right to use them or sell them, you
can thumb your nose at them.
The point is that if you trust Adobe with your files, I got a bridge to sell
you.......

I stayed with the old familiar Lightroom Classic, the version on my hard
drive, when Lightroom CC, the cloud based version, was announced.
Does anyone have any experience now that time has passed that makes one
version seem more preferable to them than the other?
Just curious, wondering what, if anything, I am missing.
