I don't use Lightroom. I prefer RawTherapee, which is incredibly complete (I
use less than 10% of it), regularly updated, open source and free.
And I don't trust the cloud. Although Adobe is a giant in the field, I've
seen too many "cloud storage" firms simply disappear - some without warning.
So, I back my photos up onto 2-TB Hard drives ... via USB-3 "Docks". And I
copy them to a minimum of three hard-drives. The first dock contains the
standard backup drive ... and everything is copied over, automagically. Once a
month, I ensure all is backed up to two more drives, so should even 2 fail, I
still have the third. The flaw in this is that during the month, my files are
only on the main HD and the main backup-drive.
Not saying this is superior to the cloud ... just an alternative that has
worked well for me... and I sleep better, at night.

Thank you , gents. I share Frank's apprehensions about safety and value
Philippe's opinion, so I will keep going with LR Classic and shun the
cloud when I can.
I do back up to the cloud as well as locally and off site, the old "belt
and suspenders routine."
Some apps offer cloud based alternates and others such as Quicken are
now solely cloud based so there is no choice, a trend I can do without.

Perspective...... The reason to use LR CC is that your files are on
THEIR server. You can use them anyplace on any device.
The reason to use LR Classic CC is that your files are NOT on their
server... so when they have a security breech, your files are safely
at home. And they charge extra for using their server.
And when they tell you to pay or else all your files will blow up (
remember Man From Uncle?) you can thumb your nose at them. AND when
they tell you that all the files you have on their server are now
THEIR property, and they have the legal right to use them or sell
them, you can thumb your nose at them.
The point is that if you trust Adobe with your files, I got a bridge
to sell you.......

one version seem more preferable to them than the other?
