Thanks for the intelligence David Yet from what I see, the comparisons are outdated; L3 beta is long gone, we at LR5 or CC6 now - my copy of LR 5 works better than the previous ones even though the changes in the sliders/controls make it difficult for regulars such as me to adapt. Every raw converter I've ever seen, uses an algorithm to demosaic (or convert) the raw image to JPEG or TIFF. But, just one. Interestingly, RawTherapee has a choice of 8 different algorithms, so you can pick the one best suited to your camera or photo style. (Two are dedicated to High ISO images.) For those interested, a comparison of various methods (with examples) can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/mz26pu5 Another page compares the DCB algorithm to others, including Silkypix, DXO, Bibble and Lightroom's algorithms - among numerous others. Again, with a very effective, interactive image which shows the differences, quite clearly. Found here: http://www.linuxphoto.org/html/test_demosaicing.html This and 109 pages of instructions (pdf), are keeping me busy! The current release (v4.0.01)is a "development build", and is fairly, but not totally stable. Needs adequate memory. But, for what it does, at the price, I can live with it's foibles. It's open-source, and the team is working towards a completely stable release. (For those who don't wish the troubles, the previous, very stable release, 3.0, is still available.) Cheers!
