David, I find that it is the sensor. I have been using the Sigma along with Panas and the Digilux 3 and find that the Sigma will always turn out pictures with greater saturation than cameras with Bayer sensors in all lighting conditions. Here ate a few examples all with R glass. Here is one in relatively bright light and background in full sun: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25126059@N02/3761077483/lightbox/ This one taken at night: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25126059@N02/4567513821/lightbox/ Early morning mist: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25126059@N02/4502634052/lightbox/ And a street scene, overcast: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25126059@N02/4154561703/lightbox/ The matrix metering and white balance is not very reliable on the SD14. Hopefully this will be fixed in future offerings from Sigma.
