Subject: [LRflex] Once upon a time, in Mexico...
As many of you are aware, Rose has me ploughing my way through thousands of her
family's old Kodachrome slides - re-photographing them with a Rube Goldberg
(Heath Robinson in you're in the UK) contraption of my own design.
Rose's dad shot 16mm movies (well enough to tour the US & Canada showing his
films) while her mother shot with a Leica IIIc (as near as we can tell) ... a
camera that eventually wound up in the kids toy box!
This afternoon, I took one slide and "played" with it. Not too much. Just ran
it through LUCID (a Canadian-made "auto-tweaker"), as part of a batch of about
250, and then used clone & heal to remove some of the dust.
The shot is of the Palacio de Bellas Artes, a prominent cultural center in
Mexico City, even today. But this photo was taken in February, of 1942!
I was absolutely astounded by the colour it is possible to pull out of 77 year
and 2 month old Kodachrome (ASA 10) slide!
