> " What is Leica really thinking"? Elliot, first there's economy of scale to consider. IMHO manufacturing success on Canon's or Nikon's scale depends on spreading R&D over a huge number of units - meaning a lot of those units ought to be inexpensive cameras that only need to be good enough for the mass market. By not offering much in the way of entry-level products when faced with competitors offering a full line of products, Leica is going to find itself less and less a part of the photographic scene. Second, which digital Canon are you comparing with the the R digital module? Are you comparing the R digital module with a professional-level model, or a consumer- or "pro-sumer"-level model? An EOS Reble or 20D is digital but it's not built to the same standards as the EOS 1D is. For example the tolerances in the AF system in the EOS 1D and other "1"-series Canons is +- 1/3 DOF while in the lesser EOS bodies the tolerance is +- 1 DOF. IMHO comparing the R8 + digital module to a digital Rebel isn't appropriate.
