Hi Andy,
My recommendation - run your antivirus/malware in
Windows safe mode so it can catch any malware before it
is activated.
You could try out the trial version (fully functional
for 30 days) of "Emsisoft Anti-Malware" - according to
numerous tests, and my own experience, it's one of the
best there is.
I've been using it since it was developed (in 2003) and
it has stopped, quarantined and removed all sorts of
stuff trying to get on to my XP machine before it could
do any damage.
There's also a free portable version you can download
and run from a USB-stick at
http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/eek/ so you can run
it on any number of computers without the bother of
installing it
