Thanks for the compliment and plug, David. I just got back from a month trip,
so am catching up. My recient stuff, say late 2007 - 2008 is mostly Rebel, but
the earlier stuff is mostly R8.

Now, for my opinion on my XTi. It can take a nice photo with Leica glass. I
use the focus confirmation chip and a Nikon (yes, Nikon) eyepiece magnifer to
try and focus correctly. With my eyes it is a chore but since I shoot mainly
stationary, or at least fixed distance subjects, this is usually not a problem.
The major problem is the over exposure when stopping down. I often need the
depth of field, so it is a real problem. The last few days on this trip I have
taken to switching to manual meter mode (I have been using A mode) and metering
wide open, then stopping down the lens to the stop I want and then counting
down the shutter speed to match. On the Leica lens, it is two clicks/stop and
on the XTi it is three clicks/corresponding shutter speed. So, say to go from
f-4 to f-8 would be 4 clicks on the lens and then 6 clicks on the shutter dial
would get me from, say 1/60 to 1/15 second.

A pain, but it seemed to work fine. Since I just got home today and have 10GB
of photos to look at, I will know more later. For quick subjects I slap on my
Sigma 17-70, a darn site better than the piece of junk lens that comes with the
XTi. (or did when I bought it).

Hope that helps. My father-in-law just bought a Nikon D-300. WOW. What a
camera. I am waiting to see what Leica does for a digital R-10. If it is
capable of using existing R lenses as easily as the R8, I will sell my teeth
for one. If not, I am afraid Leica and I will part company and I will go
Nikon. I have always liked the Nikon digital images more than the Canon. Only
got the Canon because of the ability to use my lenses. The Canon seem too
artificial, especially with people. Like plastic barbie dolls. Never did like
Nikon film cameras. Had bad experiences with them in the 70's so went European
(Rollei SL-35 and now Leica) since then.

Anything I can answer just let me know.

And welcome.
