Like many small, rural communities, our little town is concerned about the risk
of forest fire.
Back in 2013, we were the first town in BC to achieve "Fire Smart" status, for
preemptive fire mitigation around the town.
But, we still have a problem with dry grasses that create a wildfire hazard.
It's too time consuming, and expensive, to tackle the problem with people armed
with weed-whackers. So, for the last few years, our town council has taken an
inexpensive and remarkably effective approach.

PS: The haze you see in the background is smoke from the Elephant Hill Fire,
which started two months ago, just 30 minutes down the road from us. Luckily,
for us, (but not for Boston Flats, Cache Creek and many other areas) it burned
north and we are east of it. It is still burning out of control, having
consumed nearly 192,725 hectares or just over 476,000 acres to date.
