Good mornin' Peter!
A wonderful series, David, as always. The murals on the apartment
buildings, there are two columns of text in two different languages,
neither of which I recognize. One, I guess is Serbian, though I don't
know which, and would the other be Russian or Hungarian?
Actually, they are in Serbian (I think), which uses the Cyrillic alphabet and
English.... which surprised me! I have posted a close up of one, here:
http://furnfeather.ca/look/poster.html
but I checked several of my images and they are all the same. And, I thank
you for asking, because I had assumed these were murals, from Tito's time.
However, the close up reveals that they are large banners, tied to each
building. Thus, they are likely not from the former communist era. I'll need
to do a little more research.
They're all very nice images, but when I pull back from the individual
image and click back to your Photostream there on Flickr, what a
wonderful visual travelogue you've provided to viewers! Thank you!
Thank you, Peter, for your kind words. The lower Danube is, as they say, "a
target rich environment".
My one disappointment was that after passing through the Iron Gates that
morning, we did not arrive at Donji Milanovac until nearly 1pm and then took a
bus tour. On our return, I had just 36 minutes (from time of first shot to
last) at dusk, to tour the town, on foot, before the ship sailed.
Fortunately, it is a small town - physically smaller than Logan Lake, but with
roughly 400 more people! And a lovely one... I'd like to have spent a few
hours there. [sigh]
With all the images from your trip and the different perspectives - what
lens do you travel with?
I took two lenses. Oly's 12~40/2.8 PRO and the Leica-designed/Panasonic-built
Leica 100~400 f4-6.3 Vario-Elmar. With a hole in the middle (which can be
covered, in most instances with a cropped image from the 12~40 @ 40mm), it
gives (35mm equivalent) coverage from 24 to 800mm ... all hand hold-able.
Really quite amazing! For anything wider than 24mm, I simply used a 2 (or
more) shot pano.
I hope this answers your questions.
David.

Donji Milanovac is an eastern Serbian town of some 2,400 souls. The

Serbia is hoping to enter the EU, but so far, no go. They hope to
become full members by 2025.
Donji Milanovac was built in the Tito era, so apartment buildings are
adorned with historical (and occasionally, religious) propoganda.

Everywhere you look, you see Slovenian, Tomos mopeds.

and fishermen, trying for a low-budget meal.

This cat, who had been busy watching the fisherman decided to check me
out...
