Hi Peter!
His boot cleared the stirrup (they don't always manage that), but he still
landed shoulder first. The landing was not as elegant as the start of the dive.
Back in May I posted a shot of a cowboy at the Deadman's Creek rodeo, who did
land on his feet like a gymnast. But that is, I'm afraid, incredibly rare and
the only time I'd ever captured it, for posterity.

Great capture, David! But what I'm wondering is whether the rider's boot------
released from the stirrup in time for him to clear the bronc's pitching
body; and whether he met the ground with his face first, his
shoulder/torso first, or miraculously on his feet in gymnastic glory?

I've always liked the Pritchard Rodeo. It's a small event, but fun,
and in an arena that is backed by tall, stately pine trees. It's just
bloody lovely.
Unfortunately, the fence is there - you can't do much about that -
and, in any rodeo, there is the ever present danger of judges, bull-
fighters and horses getting in the way.
This shot was no exception, but I thought it worth showing, because
while I've seen hundreds of riders come off their bulls, broncs and
such, I've never seen one do it with this much style.
