Steve, if I am not mistaken, Mario was not invited to the TdF even though he
was the world champion. He is a great sprinter but not a great endurance
cyclist and would not probably do well in the TdF. The Tour is all very
political and some very good riders never get a chance to compete in it.
Now Ted Grant would have been a hellova cyclist if he just kept his good
eye on the road and stopped looking for things to photograph. ;-)
