Hello!
I hope that you are eagerly looking forward to this year’s New Laws Training.
Standpoint is still seeking a volunteer to host New Laws sessions in Northern
Minnesota!
“What is New Laws?” I imagine you asking.
New Laws focuses on the legal changes that have occurred in the prior year
impacting sexual and domestic violence. The training includes information on
Minnesota State legislative changes, Minnesota Appeals Court decisions,
Minnesota's tribal court changes, immigration policy changes, federal
legislative changes and Federal Appeals Courts decisions on topics that most
effect domestic violence victims. The training – held at various locations
throughout Minnesota in mid-August through early-October - is designed to meet
the needs of those who serve victims of domestic violence, sexual assault,
stalking and trafficking such as advocates, lawyers, law enforcement, and
corrections.
“What’s the benefit of volunteering to be a host?” you might also ask.
Well, if you asked this question, I’m so glad you asked! In addition to getting
this high-quality training presented in your community, you will receive two
complimentary registrations to the New Laws training and the opportunity to
train your local service professionals about New Laws and other important
advocacy topics. Past special topics have included working with the Deaf and
Hard of Hearing community, Title IX, and providing advocacy in remote court
hearings.
“Okay, Nikki, I’m interested in volunteering to be a host, but what would I
have to do as a host agency?”
Another great question! If the pandemic permits us to forge ahead with our
in-person aspirations, then host responsibilities include the following:
* Find and secure a free or low-cost training space
* Arrange for a block of hotel rooms near the training space
* Provide a light breakfast and afternoon snacks for both days of the
training (we reimburse you for the food at a rate of $7.00 per attendee)
* Promote the event among your professional colleagues (materials and
assistance will be provided as needed)
If a virtual New Laws is necessary, then hosts will only need to help us
promote the training.
The bottom line:
We would not be able to continue to provide the New Laws training throughout
the state without your generous help. If you have any additional questions
about being a host, or to volunteer to be a 2022 New Laws host agency, please
reach out to me by phone or email (612-383-1380 or
nikki@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:nikki@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>).
We would really love to bring our training to your area, so please consider
collaborating with us!
Kind regards,
Nikki Kelly, MS Forens Psy.
