A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT - NANCY PICARD
Today the sun is out and the temperature is rising. Spring is here and
summer is not far away. Please look around to see what each of us needs to
do to make Ledgewood the neighborhood we can all be proud to call home.
This is the busy season for all board members and Ledgewood employees. The
tennis courts are ready and the pool is being prepared for a May 21 opening
(weather permitting). Strongsville schools will end the school year on May
20 so we have planned an earlier than usual pool opening.
We are very pleased that Brittney Jankura will return as our pool manager.
You will see some new faces in the lifeguard chairs. We will continue to
use the photo ID system that was designed for us by resident, Danylo Zadony.
There is no need for new pictures to be taken this year. Residents new to
the development will have their pictures taken on their first visit to the
pool. You will need to bring proof of residency when you have your picture
taken. A driver's license, utility bill, school report card, etc. Each home
receives 30 guest passes for the year and sets of ten additional passes can
be purchased for $20. The extra pass purchase is a change from past years.
We all hope you have looked at our new web site-www.Ledgewood.org. It is
now maintained by a Ledgewood resident who is an expert.
We have signed up for both gas and electric supplies from Xoom Energy at a
considerable saving to the Association. We have changed all the bulbs in
the clubhouse to LEDs.
With the help of the garden group we are beginning a "grow our own" pine
tree project.
We continue to have issues with our playground/basketball court area. A
number of residents have complained about non-residents using the basketball
court. The groups of young people are loud, use obscene language and fill
the parking lot with their cars and use the area as a "lover's lane." We
have posted the area for Ledgewood residents only. We have removed one of
the basketball hoops to prevent organized games by large groups. We will
begin locking the main gate on Falling Water from 9:00 pm until 8:00 am
daily. We hope these steps, along with special attention by the
Strongsville Police Department, will solve some of the problems. If you see
something happening that is out of the ordinary in this or any other areas
of Ledgewood, please call the Police Department for assistance.

WATER AEROBICS
Gain the benefits of exercise with minimized stress on your joints. Water
aerobics classes are designed to build strength, flexibility, and
cardio-vascular fitness while enjoying the buoyancy of water. All fitness
and swimming levels are welcome. However, participants do not have to know
how to swim. Water aerobics classes are led by a trained exercise
instructor and two lifeguards will be on duty. No sign up necessary. Money
can be paid directly to the instructor before the start of class. Noodles
will be provided. Ledgewood residents and guests welcome. Don't forget to
bring a water bottle!

The pool will close at 4:00 p.m. on the above days due to the Ledgewood Swim
Meets. The Swim Team would like to invite any residents to attend these
meets.

SWIM TEAM - DANYLO ZADONY - PRESIDENT
The 2016 Ledgewood Swim Team season is nearly upon us! I'd like to start
with a big thank you to all the swimmers, parents and grandparents involved
this year. Participation has significantly increased and I can only expect
the growth to continue for years to come. Another big thank you goes out to
all the participating alumni parents. Their support and assistance with
running meets at our pool has been very important to our team!
In case you may not already know, Ledgewood's team-partner is now Westwood
Farms. We wish Forest Park, our prior team-partner, the best going forward.
Our new team partnership will stabilize our team's future while increasing
opportunities for the children involved in the program. As our team
continues to strengthen and grow, we hope to once again restart some of the
community events our team was once known for.
It is not too late to sign up if your child or grandchild would like to join
our team. Information regarding leadership contacts, registration, future
events and how to volunteer at meets can be found on Ledgewood's recently
updated website. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to
the team's leadership for anything.
COMMON GROUND - RAY SPOSET & CARL VENTURA
Clubhouse/Pool Parking Lot
In the coming weeks you will be seeing poles inserted into the ground along
the sidewalk part of the parking lot. The lot will then be chained off when
the pool or clubhouse are not in use. At the end of the swimming season the
parking lot will be repaired. We are doing this because of an increasing
number of trucks, and other heavy vehicles parking or turning around in the
lot. The lot was made for car traffic and the heavier vehicles are damaging
the lot. We do not want to spend the money to repair the lot unless we can
make sure the lot will not be abused in the future.
Fireplug Painting
The city does not have the funds to paint our fireplugs, but will provide
the paint for us to do it. The maintenance people will try to get all 99
fireplugs painted during the summer.

April didn't exactly bring Spring to Ledgewood - so hopefully May will -
which means home maintenance and yard work season is here!
We have some lovely landscaping in the neighborhood and the Association
appreciates all the effort it takes to keep the grass mowed and the
landscaping trimmed and tidy.
Annual Walk-through: From mid-June to the end of June the team will
conduct the walkthrough. We'll check for overgrown bushes and trees as well
as weeds, broken light posts and other items. Take a minute or two to review
the items below and decide if anything on your property is on the list and
should be attended to. Your attention to your home and yard affects not only
your property, but also that of your neighbors. When going through the list
you will want to keep in mind the view from your backyard neighbors.
Neglecting your property is also a violation of the Association's Covenants
and Restrictions and a City of Strongsville ordinance. You will be notified
by letter of any violations.
. Are trees or shrubs encroaching on the sidewalk? In other words, can you
walk past with out tripping or having your face scratched from stray
branches?
. Is the concrete walk tilted or sunken more than 1 inch?
. Is the lamppost rusted off or broken? It must have a black post and the
standard Ledgewood globe. If you are in need of a globe check in with Jim at
the maintenance garage. Be sure the vegetation does not obscure the light.
This is a safety issue for neighbors walking by.
. Mailbox condition. Most of the original "bird house" types have rotted
away and been replaced by a variety of styles. If you have to replace yours,
please stay with the wooden post and a style that blends with the house. The
plastic, molded types are not very "natural".
. Are there dead trees and shrubs in the yard that need removal or trimming?
. Are retaining walls in good condition? Most of those original railroad
ties have rotted away.
. Is the lawn in reasonable condition? Not only are weeds an eyesore but
they tend to migrate onto neighboring properties.
. Is there clutter in the yard or beside your home? The side of your house
is not an open-air storage area for ladders, yard furniture and general
clutter.
. Are fences in good condition and painted? Are screens in good repair?
. Are the gutters in good condition, free of sticks, leaves and baby plants?
. Are the roof tiles in good, moss and plant free condition?
. Could the house or any fencing stand a new coat of paint or stain?
. And last but not least, the catchall "Are there any other eyesores?"
Again, we wish to thank all those homeowners who continue to make us proud
to live in Ledgewood.
2016 NEIGHBORHOOD FOOD DRIVE
Please mark your calendars for Saturday, June 18th. The Ledgewood community
will be holding its ninth, annual, neighborhood food drive. We will be
collecting non-perishable food items and monetary gifts to be donated to the
Strongsville Emergency Food Bank and the SCAN Hunger Center Pantry that
services Strongsville and five other local communities.
School is out early this year, which only increases the summer demand for
food when children are not receiving meals at schools. We need your
continued generosity to fill this need. It's greatly appreciated by all who
are served.
If you want to donate but are unable to drop food off at the various
collection sites on June 18th, please phone the Coniam's at (440)572-4808 to
arrange a pick up at your convenience.
