Greetings All:
This year's competition: Rich Kostecke's Austin yard vs. Anthony Hewetson's
Lubbock yard. The rules: anything that can be seen from the yards (no
restrictions to yard 'airspace'), heard birds subject to review and
agreement, no eye gouging, and no birding below the belt.
Rich ended November with 78 species and December rewarded him (finally)
with a Great Horned Owl, bringing him up to 79 species for 2016 ... and
that was it for December.
Anthony ended November with species and December rewarded him (finally)
with an over-flight of Greater White-fronted Geese, bringing him up to 89
species for 2016 ... and that was it for December.
The win is nice but we are both agree that, had spring or fall migration
been just a wee bit more spectacular, it might well have gone the other
way.
Our 2017 game - which should yield a lot more species - will be the subject
of a separate post. Watch this space.
