To: OBOLINKS <obol@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

The herring spawning events along the north and south jetties at Yaquina
Bay have attracted a lot of gulls and surf scoters to feast on the
bountiful eggs.  Harlequin ducks have also discovered the bounty.  Chuck
Philo and I were trying to get an accurate count this morning and
eventually I got good count of 63, an all time record for me at this
location.

Attached are two photos from the spawning event on March 7th when the
weather was much nicer than today.  In the second photo note the male on
the left side has herring eggs stuck all over its breast feathers.  Maybe
he’s saving them for later or perhaps fighting over a female takes priority>
