Friends So Others Might Eat (SOME) is in urgent need Please consider making a
donation to SOME on their website. Our Meeting has a longstanding history in
helping SOME feed individuals and families in DC who suffer from poverty and
homelessness. As many of you know Social Concerns has organized a program that
many of you have generously assisted with over the years by providing home
cooked meals on a monthly basis, that a volunteer delivers to their location on
O St, NW DC. The coronavirus pandemic has changed how SOME is able to feed the
homeless population, instead of family style meals in the dining room, they are
preparing "grab and go" meals. Currently they are seeking donations so that
they can prepare the meals in their kitchen. SOME is celebrating their 50th
anniversary, it was founded in 1970 by a Jesuit priest, Fr Horace McKenna of St
Aloysius known as the "priest to the poor".Starting out serving sandwiches in a
lunch line on near Capital Hill, SOME nowoffers more than Basic needs of meals,
showers, clothing room and food pantry. They also provide healthcare, social
services, job training and low cost housing options. Social Concerns has made a
donation already from our emergency fund, but we wanted to open this
opportunity up to the entire Meeting so we are all able to give. We plan on
providing a second hour presentation in the fall which will include much more
details about SOME and of course lunch! In love and Light, Social Concerns
