Robert, this is something that has concerned me for a while because it could
seriously affect the broader adoption of EVs.
For example, it is currently impossible for me to drive a non-Tesla EV from
Maryville to central Mississippi where I have family. In a Tesla, it would be
no problem.
And even if EA had chargers along that route (which they don’t), I have seen
several reports that show how unreliable their chargers can be.
The recent initiative announced by TVA, TDEC, and ETCFC, where they plan to put
a few chargers every 50 miles on major routes in Tennessee is great...but it’s
really just a drop in the bucket (albeit a really important drop).
Tesla’s Supercharger network is the gold standard for coverage, reliability,
and ease of use. The other manufacturers don’t stand a chance unless they work
together to help build out a similarly good network. For the sake of widespread
EV adoption, let’s hope they do it soon!

Legacy car makers still have a ways to go before they can rival the
Supercharger network.
