Eric, I mostly use my Zoom H2 recorder, and then edit with the Cool Edit
2000 as well. 
The Zoom H2 has e sleuth of options in recording (lossless/mp3/ even
quadro possibilities)
Recording time only limited by your SD card size (HC supported)

I should probably add that I am using my old version of Cool Edit 2000,
with 
the 4-track add-on (still a great little tool) for all of my 
recording/editing.
