BMW baut Entwicklungszentrum für autonomes Fahren
BMW will im Großraum München ein Entwicklungszentrum für autonomes Fahren mit
rund 2.000 Mitarbeitern errichten. "Wir wollen Mitte 2017 loslegen", kündigte
ein Konzernsprecher am 26. Oktober an. Gegenwärtig arbeiteten einige
BMW-Experten für autonomes Fahren im Forschungs- und Entwicklungszentrum nahe
der Konzernzentrale und dem Stammwerk München, weitere im Vorort Garching sowie
an anderen Standorten. "Wir wollen das an einem Ort zusammenführen in einer Art
Campus und dort viele neue Arbeitsplätze schaffen", so der Sprecher. (DPA - 27.

Volvo hebt Ausblick für 2016 an
Volvo hat für das dritte Quartal einen Gewinnanstieg um 62 Prozent auf 2,07
Milliarden schwedische Kronen (233 Millionen Dollar) ausgewiesen. Eine starke
Nachfrage nach kostspieligeren Modellen kurbelte sowohl Umsatz als auch
Profitabilität an. Die Erlöse kletterten auf 41,1 Milliarden Kronen, verglichen
mit 36,1 Milliarden Kronen im Vorjahreszeitraum. Für das Gesamtjahr 2016
rechnet das Unternehmen nun mit einer "deutlichen Verbesserung" des Gewinns.

VW wieder mit mehr Gewinn
Volkswagen bekommt die Folgen des Abgas-Skandals auch ein Jahr nach seinem
Bekanntwerden weiter zu spüren. Der Konzern erwirtschaftete in den ersten neun
Monaten des laufenden Jahres 8,65 Milliarden Euro Gewinn vor Zinsen und Steuern
(Ebit), wie VW am 27. Oktober in Wolfsburg mitteilte. Damit liegt der Gewinn
zwar deutlich über dem Vergleichswert von 3,34 Milliarden Euro aus der
entsprechenden Vorjahresperiode. Aber zu jener Zeit waren im dritten Quartal
auch bereits milliardenschwere Rückstellungen zur Bewältigung der Krise

Audi: Zusatzkosten von mehr als einer halben Milliarde Euro
Audi erwartet wegen der Aufarbeitung des Diesel-Skandals und Rückrufen von
Autos mit fehlerhaften Takata-Airbags deutlich höhere Kosten. Die zusätzlichen
Belastungen schätzt die VW-Tochter auf etwa 620 Millionen Euro, wie das
Unternehmen am 27. Oktober erklärte. Damit kürzt der wichtigste Gewinnbringer
für die Konzernmutter Volkswagen auch die Gewinnerwartungen für das laufende
Jahr. Die operative Marge werde "deutlich unter dem angepeilten Zielkorridor

Tesla überrascht mit Quartalsgewinn
Der chronisch defizitäre Elektroautohersteller Tesla hat im dritten Quartal
überraschend schwarze Zahlen geschrieben und unter dem Strich 21,9 Millionen
Dollar verdient. Im Vorjahreszeitraum hatte Tesla noch einen Verlust von 293
Millionen Dollar verbucht. Die Erlöse legten um 145 Prozent auf 2,3 Milliarden

Gewinn bei SHW schrumpft um ein Fünftel
Der Autozulieferer SHW hat wieder einen herben Gewinnrückgang verzeichnet. Der
Gewinn sackte in den ersten neun Monaten des Jahres um rund 20 Prozent auf 9,9
Millionen Euro ab, wie das Unternehmen am 26. Oktober berichtete. Als Grund
nannte SHW unter anderem hohe Abschreibungen für Produktionsanlagen sowie den
Diesel-Skandal in der Automobilindustrie. Das Geschäft mit dem Großkunden

BMW to build development center for autonomous driving
BMW plans to establish a development center for autonomous driving technologies
with about 2,000 staff in Munich and the surrounding area. The group wants to
go ahead with the plans in the middle of 2017, a spokesperson said on October
26. Some BMW experts for autonomous driving are currently working in the R&D
center close to the group headquarters and the principal factory in Munich,
others in the Garching suburb as well as other sites. "We want to combine this
at one site in a kind of campus and create many new jobs there," the

Volvo raises 2016 outlook
Volvo Car Group reported a 62 percent increase in third-quarter earnings to
2.07 billion Swedish crowns (233 million dollars), driven by strong demand for
new pricier models that have lifted both sales and profitability. Sales climbed
to 41.1 billion crowns, from a year-ago 36.1 billion crowns. The company said
it now expects a "substantial improvement" in profits for the full year 2016.

VW again with higher earnings
Volkswagen still feels the pinch from the emissions scandal even a year after
the news about the manipulated engines broke. The group recorded earnings
before interest and taxes (ebit) of 8.65 billion euros for the first nine
months of the year, Volkswagen said in Wolfsburg on October 27. While this
figure clearly exceeds the 3.34 billion euros reported in the same period a
year ago, VW had already made multi-billion provisions to cope with the crisis

Audi: additional costs of more than 500 million euros
Audi expects significantly higher costs in the face of the diesel scandal and
recalls of vehicles equipped with faulty Takata airbags. The Volkswagen
subsidiary said on October 27 it estimates that the additional financial burden
will amount to 620 million euros. Audi, which is the most important source of
profit within Volkswagen Group, also cut its profit forecast for the full year
as a consequence, saying that the "operating return on sales after special
items in the financial year 2016 should be considerably below the target

Tesla unexpectedly reports profit in third quarter
Chronically loss-making electric-vehicle manufacturer Tesla unexpectedly posted
a net profit of 21.9 million dollars for the third quarter. The company had
still reported a loss of 293 million dollars in the same period last year.
Revenue soared 145 percent to 2.3 billion dollars. Analysts had expected worse

SHW profit drops by a fifth
Automotive supplier SHW has recorded another substantial profit decline. Profit
fell 20 percent to 9.9 million euros in the first nine months of the year, the
company said on October 26. SHW attributed the development to high write-offs
on production facilities and to the diesel scandal in the automotive industry.
The company's sales to major customer Volkswagen have also sagged lately. (DPA
