Hello Chip and all, There was lots of discussion at breakfast about the balloon. Les came up with a good possible explanation about a couple of the tracking mysteries. The GPS is designed to not work above 20 km. It either gives garbage readings or a fixed reading of the last position as it ascended through 20 km. But the APRS transponder keeps sending that position. So it may appear that the balloon is stationary at the position it passed 20 km. When it descends through 20 km, it will start giving positions again, assuming everything else is ok. So it may have descended below 20 km north of Alexandria Bay, NY and then went back up and kept transmitting the position where it went back up through 20 km, making it look like it was stationary on the ground. Then when it eventually came down again, it transmitted its final position. It is not clear to me what data was being collected via the APRS system, independent of Queens on-board data. Apparently it was transmitting mostly all the time. Is that data recorded anywhere in the APRS system? Apparently someone was recording something? Any details? ...
