yes the waterproof thing is nice...the legend (I think) is waterproof but the 
rating is quirky 1m of water for 30 mins.....great, but we have had two sink on 
canoe trips. So attach a float to it if you're using it for paddling....the 
76csx is bells and whistles are only necessary if you have a need for the 
electronic compass (stationary map work without moving around) and elevation 
tools (barometer etc.) we use the 76csx for our mountain trips...the elevation 
stuff and mapping capabilities are
really handy for building a database fro trip to trip.
