MessageCan't say I remember properly but seem to think I noticed something like 90+IAS.My climb rate was set initially at700' pm and reduced to 300'pm at 9000'.Never used the TAS opt. Is your ASI set to IAS or TAS? This is in the settings somewhere and should be IAS. The TAS option is daft - they never should have included it. bones -----Original Message----- From: jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Fred Stopforth Sent: 23 August 2007 17:19 To: jhb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jhb] Re: UK Event for Wednesday 22 August 2007 1830UTC Bones,I eventually closed my cowls at about 7500' with my uneducated guess reasoning that it would be colder up there, possibly more damp and that I need warm engines:but then I had been on full throttle all thro the climb so presume that was something I didn't do right. I'm sure someone else was using the BE58 last night and got well above FL100. Did you have the cowls open or closed? bones -----Original Message----- From: jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Paul Reynolds Sent: 23 August 2007 09:07 To: jhb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jhb] Re: UK Event for Wednesday 22 August 2007 1830UTC Using the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) method, lean and watch EGT it should start to rise. Your ideal mix is where it peaks so when it starts to fall again increase the mix a tad and your there. Fred Fred, I'm sure I'm not the expert on this, but as I understand it, the higher you get, the thinner the air gets. The engine sucks in a mixture of air and fuel, so as you get higher it needs less fuel as there is less air about to keep the mix in the correct proportions. I have heard of 2 ways to do this, one is to monitor the exhaust temperature, and the other is to listen to the engine as you reduce the mix, and when it starts to cough then give it a touch more to keep it smooth. Of course, when you descend you have to reverse the process. Frank T. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- No virus found in this incoming message.
