The weather was the only major update for FSX in that effects affected ground textures. You should see runways and aprons change colour when it rains and should get reflection from a rain soaked surface. If FSX can create ice on the ground then you are in for a treat - taxying on ice ain't for the weak hearted. bones -----Original Message----- From: jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jhb-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Gerry Winskill Sent: 05 May 2007 22:20 To: jhb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jhb] That's Clever Having just copied Active Sky's cloud textures across to FSX, I did a test circuit at EGAC. The textures were a big improvement, though there was probably a slight fps downturn. To try to assess this I switched off AS and went for the weather themes. Getting carried away, I opted for Snow, despite it being summer. What a pleasant surprise. Not only was I heading into thick snow but it started to settle on the ground! Even some of the AG trees started to get a coating. By the time I was on finals it covered most of the ground, though not the H&W cranes addon. On short finals I was starting to get a bit picky and was a bit disappointed to see the runway still uncovered. In the flare I could actually see a few streaks towards the runway edges. Then I spotted why there was no snow; it had melted and the runway was covered in very realistic water. A change to spot view showed I was throwing up spray from the wheels. Yesterday I was beginning to doubt that FSX offered any large advantages over FS9, apart from the crucial abillity to run the GenX scenery. Then up pops something like the snow. I must get out more and find what else is available. Gerry Winskill
